A exposição Transmutação reune obras de artistas que, de alguma forma, se projetam sobre a própria obra. O visitante que vier à galeria para ver uma exposição de auto-retratos poderá se surpreender, pois em alguns casos, podemos detectar mais a manifestação de uma personalidade do que da figura do artista. Se a concepção de auto-retrato pressupõe a figura do artista, seja em foto, pintura ou desenho, a exposição quebra esta expectativa, ao mostrar trabalhos em que o auto retratado aparece de costas ou sem rosto.

A mostra constitui-se de 15 obras: Albano Afonso, em uma fotografia, se retrata de costas, num espelho. Efrain Almeida participa com uma obra - uma escultura de um cachorro em que sua imagem está na medalha de identificação do animal. Fábio Carvalho, com duas fotos, onde foram sobrepostas e fundidas digitalmente 11 imagens suas ao longo de 36 anos, comentando a memória da passagem do tempo que cada um de nós cria para si mesmo. Randolfo Rocha, que recentemente retornou dos Estados Unidos, apresenta-se pela primeira vez em galeria brasileiras, com uma pintura da década de 80, onde sua imagem é mostrada de perfil, na figura de um general. Valérie Dantas apresenta uma obra formada por duas fotos em que sua imagem se funde à imagem de uma águia. Na frente deste conjunto é colocada uma asa de tecido, elaborada pela artista e que o espectador poderá vestir-se e também, se transformar no animal. Mauro Piva, com 2 desenhos cuja figura masculina representa o artista e está sempre de camiseta marrom. Entretanto o rosto da figura nunca é retratada. O trabalho da artista plástica norte americana Orly Cogan, consiste em um tecido de mesa, estampado industrialmente, que a artista borda e pinta situações às vezes vividas por ela mesma e outras vezes retrata seus desejos. Cinthia Marcelle, com um conjunto de 5 fotos desenvolvidas na África do Sul, em conjunto com Jean Meeran, mistura-se à paisagem retratada.

Transmutation

The Transmutation exhibition brings together works of artists who, in some way, project themselves onto their own work. The visitor coming to the gallery to see an exhibition of self-portraits may be surprised, as in some cases we can detect the manifestation of a personality rather than the artist's figure. Randolfo Rocha, who recently returned from the United States, is presenting himself for the first time in Brazilian galleries, with a painting from the 1980s, where his image is shown in profile, in the figure of a General. Valérie Dantas presents a work made up of two photos in which her image merges with the image of an eagle. In front of this group is placed a fabric wing, prepared by the artist, that the spectator can wear and transform itself into the animal. Mauro Piva, with 2 drawings whose male figure represents the artist and is always in a brown tee-shirt. However, the figure's face in never portrayed. The work of the North American artist Orly Cogan, consists of an industrially printed table cloth, on which the artist embroids and paints situations sometimes lived by herself and at other times portraying her desires. Cinthia Marcelle, with a set of 5 photos developed in South Africa, in conjunction with Jean Meeran, mixes herself into the portrayed landscape.
